Alternative Provision

Empowering Students with Diverse Learning Paths

Our Alternative Provision uses the educational ethos of Forest School to support children and young people who are struggling to access Mainstream education

Our setting offers a different way of learning.

  • Through a trusting and reciprocal relationship with our practitioners, children and young people will learn to assess, manage and take physical, social and emotional risks.

  • Children and young people will learn new skills that may not have been readily available to them within curriculum led learning. From basketry, to coppicing, from firelighting to green woodwork, for some young people seeing a future in forestry or traditional crafts is inspiring and life changing.

  • A better understanding of self, being able to indentify and communicate emotions, and advocating for their own needs supports children and young people to navigate the world as they grow. Self knowledge and self advocacy underpin self esteem and support better mental health

Who is it for?

We recognise that formal schooling is currently not working for some young people. This can often be directly linked to:

  • Neurodivergence

  • Trauma

  • Mental Health

Our provision is designed to support children and young people who:

  • Are unable to access school at present

  • Attend school but require additional support

  • Have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion

  • Live with complex neurological conditions

  • Have experience in the care system

Due to the personalised and tailored nature of our support, we are able to work with children and young people facing a wide range of life experiences and challenges.

Where are the sessions?

Most bushcraft sessions take place at our site at Werneth Low Country Park, Hyde, Tameside

We offer flexible support for children, young people, and their families by starting sessions in familiar and safe environments, such as a local park or their family garden. In certain situations, we may begin with indoor sessions to build trust and foster a positive relationship, paving the way for outdoor engagement

Private tutoring can be offered in both Tameside, Trafford and Stockport
